Morton’s at Dunville Avenue
Fine food since 1934
We’re proud to be one of the original food stores in Ireland, and our old-fashioned, family-values-based approach of selling top quality produce sourced fresh from the markets and the best producers, has served our customers very well over the years. It seems that when it comes to food, more and more people are looking for quality they can trust. They’re looking for traditional values.
It makes us really happy to see the same familiar faces, our loyal long-standing customers coming into our shop week after week. Of course we also love to meet new friends. We’re part of the neighbourhood and that’s the way we like it. Drop in and say hello, and let our staff be of service.
Each day, we fire up the stoves here at our kitchen in Dunville Avenue to make our range of soups, salads, and prepared dinners such as shepherd’s pie and lasagne, and more contemporary dishes like kormas, tagines and curries. We have an impressive selection of cakes too.
Our team of chefs, led by executive chef Mary Farrell, uses only the freshest seasonal ingredients to produce quality delicious food for your culinary delight. We cook it, you enjoy it.
Lawlor’s Butchers at Morton’s
Proper meat is a proper treat, and that’s why we’ve partnered with Lawlor’s, the award winning, Rathmines-based butchers, to ensure that our butcher counter is a cut above the rest. Traceability is one of the most important ways to guarantee quality meat, and all our meat is raised sustainably on Irish farms.
As well as beef, lamb, pork and poultry, we have game in season and our butchers are happy to cut and trim our meat to your specific requirements. Drop by for a chat and see our great selection.
There was a time when there was a fishmonger in every village, but things, as they say, have changed. But not in Morton’s. We have a fish counter where Alan, our fishmonger, is happy to help you in your choice and preparation of fish. He’ll even give you advice about how best to cook it and ideas for what you can serve it with.
Our fish is available from Tuesday to Saturday. We have a wide range of fresh fish, and source as much as possible from Irish waters.
Our Cheese Counter
We may complain about the weather in Ireland, but our lush pastures mean that Irish farmhouse cheese is world class. Emma is our experienced in-house cheesemonger. Emma sources local cheeses as well as some of her favourites from the continent. Why not try a different cheese each week?
It’s a bit like wine, there are so many different styles, and it’s fun and exciting to explore a bit deeper and expand your repertoire.
When it comes to fruit and vegetables, we’re a traditional greengrocer at heart. It’s part of our DNA and we’ve been doing it since we opened in 1934, when all you could get was produce that was local and seasonal. Of course, there are plenty of vegetables less suited to our very soft climate, so we also stock those as well, including some very exotic ones, but always maintaining the highest of quality standards.
So don’t worry about cracking open your favourite cookbook at the weekend or sticking to your 5-a-day, we have all the herbs, vegetables and fruit you’ll need.
Because we bake all of our cakes in-house, they not only look great, they also have that wonderful home-baked taste that you get from Morton’s Kitchen. You’ll find classics like cream sponges, indulgent treats like salted caramel tarts and tea time favourites like cheese cake and carrot cake. If cookies are your thing, we have a tempting selection which leaves jammy dodgers in the shade.
